The Shortfilm Festival "San Rafael in short" aims dissemination, disclosure and the screening of cinematographic works as well as the knowledge of these by the audience. The works presented not opt to a prize or award, only the assessment of the audience.
Domingo Socorro Distribution Award (consists of the distribution of the short film through national and international festivals for one year)
The Gran Angular Canarian cultural association organizes the 21th edition of the "San Rafael en corto Short Film Festival", a space for the dissemination of Canarian cinematography and support for new and not so new directors from the Canary Islands, where creativity and love for culture are encouraged.
SREC is an annual meeting between creators, professionals and the public to whom they scheduled films are directed.
The 21th edition of SREC will take place from November 8th through 14th, 2025.
1. The short film exhibition "San Rafael en corto" consists of two sections:
CANARIAN COMPETITIVE SECTION
This competitive section admits only short films made by female directors-es residing in the Canary Islands or by female directors-canarians who do not reside in the Canary Islands.
INTERNATIONAL NON-COMPETITIVE SECTION
The non-competitive international section admits works by filmmakers from all over the world. The short films that are registered in a language other than Spanish must be presented with subtitles in Spanish embedded in the copy.
All the short films that are registered in the call for the 21th edition of SREC will first be reviewed, to see if they meet the requirements established in the bases.
The SREC organization will confirm the selection of the short films registered to the participants of the Canarian Competitive Section and the International Non-Competitive Section. In the same way, the direction of SREC will establish the order and the exhibition dates of the selected short films.
2. The motto chosen by the organization for this 21th edition is CINEMA and CLIMATE CHANGE.
3. This exhibition will be held at the Víctor Jara municipal theater in Vecindario (Gran Canaria)
4. The works that are presented are not eligible for any prize or award, only for the evaluation of the attending public.
5. The registration deadline will be 23:59:59 on July 13, 2025. Any person wishing to exhibit their own cinematographic work may apply to the 21th SREC.
6. Each participant may register a single work in the formats indicated within the required period. The works must be sent in original version. Mandatory subtitles in Spanish for versions in other languages. (subtitles must be embedded in the copy)
7. The duration of each short film must not be less than 30 seconds nor exceed 6 minutes, including opening and closing credits (we will be strict with this point).
8. Participants in the 21st edition of "San Rafael en Corto" must complete and submit the "online registration form" indicated in point 12 of these rules before sending the work or by accessing our website
www.granangularcanarias.com under the "formulario" tab.
Works received without having completed the official online registration form by the deadline will be excluded from participation in the 21st edition of SREC.
9. Works must be submitted no later than 11:59:59 p.m. on July 13, 2025, and only after completing the online registration, through the following digital platforms:

10. The selection of the works will be communicated confidentially to the producers or representatives of the selected films, until the Festival decides to announce them officially.
11. Once the organization communicates the selection of a title as part of the current edition’s program, the director, producer, or person responsible for the submission must proceed as follows and send the following materials to the email contacto@granangularcanarias.com:
A screening copy via download link in digital screening format. Only the following formats are accepted:
.MP4 / MPEG H264 Full HD resolution (1920x1080) and 48 kHz audio.
.MOV / MP4 Apple ProRes 422 Full HD resolution (1920x1080) and 48 kHz audio.
The organization will be very strict and will not accept any other format to ensure high-quality screenings.
Poster and trailer of the work (if available) for promotional and/or advertising purposes.
12. Online registration form.
13. The subject matter of the work is open, although the theme chosen by the organization is Cinema and Migration.
Works containing violent content that may offend public sensitivity will not be accepted.
14. The Asociación Cultural Canaria “Gran Angular,” as organizer of the short film showcase “San Rafael en Corto,” reserves the right to exclude any work that does not comply with these rules or does not meet a minimum quality standard (we will be strict with those that do not respect the submission format or exceed the established time limit).

16. Participants in “San Rafael en Corto” may choose whether or not to authorize the broadcast of their short film on television, if it is selected and becomes part of the audience award winners, according to agreements that may be reached with different TV networks for the promotion of this 21st edition. In such cases, the short film will be broadcast with its title and full credits.
This option must be specified by checking or unchecking the relevant box in the online registration form.
17. Participants whose short films are chosen by audience vote and become part of the audience award winners of this edition agree to grant screening rights for promotional purposes, allowing Gran Angular to exhibit them.
18. By registering a work, the submitter (director, producer, or registration representative) irrevocably accepts the rules set by the Festival’s management. Under no circumstances may a selected work be withdrawn from the program once chosen by the Selection Committee.
The interpretation of these rules lies solely with the SREC organization.
19. Gran Angular, the organizer of the San Rafael en Corto short film showcase, will not return any materials submitted for this 21st edition to the sender.
20. Submitting a work to the 21st SREC implies full acceptance and compliance with the participation rules outlined in this document.
The Festival’s Management Committee reserves the right to modify or expand these rules and will make such changes public before the start of the Festival. In case of unforeseen conflict or if these rules are not properly followed, the Festival’s management retains authority and reserves the right to the final decision.
Any doubt regarding the interpretation of these rules will be resolved by the SREC management.
