“If there's anything that could be considered the Promised Land of Independent Cinema in Europe today, it is Oldenburg.” - Accred - L'actualité des festivals de cinéma
Labelled ‘the German Sundance’ by Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and Screen International, amongst others, Oldenburg has evolved while preserving its intimate atmosphere and founding purpose: to celebrate and support the diverse voices and visions of independent filmmakers, to honor the creativity of the artists upon which the Festival depends, and to create a unique experience and inspiring meeting place for filmmakers, audiences, and media professionals.
“Oldenburg - renown for its determination, cinephilia, and openness for the extremes - impresses with its brilliant programming.” - GRIP
Additionally, in an effort to raise awareness and build bridges between worlds through the common language of film, Oldenburg is the only Film Festival in the world that annually screens part of its regular program to incarcerated individuals who share the experience with members of the general public in an actual high-security Prison environment, known as ‘The Alcatraz of the North’.
“Oldenburg thrives as a discovery channel.” - Screen International
In addition to supporting the discovery of new artists, Oldenburg has hosted the German Premieres of films by such acclaimed filmmakers as Darren Aronofsky, Brian De Palma, Steven Soderbergh, Michael Polish, Johnnie To, Chan-wook Park, Monte Hellmann, & Takeshi Kitano amongst others. Guests of honor have included Jim McBride, Larry Clark, Philippe de Broca, Andrzej Zulawski, Ken Russell, Jerry Schatzberg, James Toback, Radley Metzger, Ted Kotcheff, Phedon Papmichael, George Armitage, Christophe Honoré, Edward R. Pressman, Bruce Robinson, William Freidkin, Ovidio Assonitis, and Peter & John Hyams who have all attended the festival for Retrospectives of their work.
“Just as impressive as the films was the festival itself, which, under the inspired direction of Torsten Neumann, combined intelligent cinephilia with a laid-back atmosphere of democratic equality.” - Sight and Sound
Nicolas Cage, Seymour Cassel, Asia Argento, Keira Knightley, Deborah Kara Unger, Mira Sorvino, Bobcat Goldthwait, Michael Wadleigh, Joanna Cassidy, Luke Wilson, Ben Gazzara, Stacy Keach, Amanda Plummer, Keith Carradine, Matthew Modine, Sean Baker, Andrea Rau, Mattie Do & Noémie Merlant are amongst many who have attended as honored guests or for Tributes in their honor.
“Alongside Venice and Toronto, Oldenburg is considered one of the most important Autumn Festivals for Independent Cinema” - de Telegraaf
Rated #1 in Germany on The Most Important Autumn Film Festivals List for and by the German Film Industry (Blickpunkt Film), and #3 internationally after Venice & TIFF, Oldenburg is regarded as “one of the most important European festivals for independent cinema" (Tagesschau).

What is Do Ut Des Film Festival? Who is it for? Why this name?
Let's go in order...
First of all, Do Ut Des Film Festival is a fantastic container of short cinema; we are open to short films from all over the world (as long as they are produced starting from January 2019), whose finalists - selected by us in collaboration with Sentiero Film Factory - this year will become part of two "special categories" within the SFF 2022 (here for submit: https://filmmakers.festhome.com/festival/6635):
- MUSIC IN SHORT (video clips, experimental videos in which the images interact directly with the music are allowed)
- REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY (includes films dedicated to the cultural exchange between Italy and the Rest of the World; this year the focus will be on Baltic Countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania)
Do Ut Des Film Festival is not just a nice word pun, but it wants to overturn the negative stereotype linked to the Latin phrase "do ut des": an expression often used to indicate the ancient - how not very edifying - practice of "exchange’s vote" within politics and institutions in general ... Is it a provocation? Maybe yes, but the only thing we are interested in trading here are your visionary talent and our ability to highlight and reward it as it deserves and then - why not – mixing different cultures and styles, because cinema is beautiful also because it is varied. Furthermore, since we are in Tuscany, we could not fail to pay homage to one of the characters who made the history of music for being the inventor of the tetragrammaton (at the root of the current stave), namely Guido d'Arezzo; who was the first in the year 1025 to line up all the notes of the musical scale starting from the UT latin sound (what we now know as C).
In short, Do Ut Des Film Festival is all this and more! We hope you will want to discover it with us by attending us in this new exciting adventure, exchanging good cinema and showing your many and fascinating visions of the world. We are waiting for you!

MSF was created with the purpose of embracing, recognizing, and showcasing short film. We LOVE short films and discovered a need in the festival community for a new way to approach the short film. Films that slam an edgy topic in less than forty minutes are true masterpieces.
Of course, traditional and mainstream shorts are also valuable. Everyone loves a great comedy or an informative documentary. There are a myriad of genres that our team of industry professionals are eager to see and evaluate. Our reviewers have knowledge and experience in the genre of films they evaluate. They also understand the complexities and challenges associated with creating independent films.
In addition, films are screened by the public. These individuals are your target demographic. They give valuable insight to both the quality of your film and its potential marketability. When you win here, you are winning with the public.

The International “Festival International du Film Panafricain” (FIFP) in Cannes is a platform that exhibits cinema and its professions, arts and entrepreneurship, as well as innovation, culture and events.
The FIFP was created and founded by Mr. Eitel Basile NGANGUE EBELLE and the “Association Nord Sud Développement, agréée jeunesse et Education Populaire Ministère de la santé, de la jeunesse et des sports n° 06514”.
As a driving force behind the PanAfrican Cinema and Arts industry, the Festival is constantly seeking specific solutions for the development of PanAfrican Cinema and Arts.
With a booming Pan-African market (from Africa to the Americas through the Caribbean, Europe and Asia), the Festival benefits from expertise in the development of cinema and Fashion as well as the development of cultural affairs.
Since its creation in 2006, the DIKALO AWARDS (meaning « message » in the Cameroonian language Douala) has been awarded by a professional jury for the best short and feature films (fiction), the best long and short documentaries, the Dikalos Peace Award, as well as the best actor and actress awards.
The FIFP is a felt moment. It is a unique experience where PanAfrican cinema and African cultures and those of its diaspora around the world are the central focus. An exceptional energy is felt.
Since 2018, the FIFP in Cannes has included along with its projections, a market: the Entrepreneurship Salon for Culture and Well-Being. The objective is to enhance the economy of PanAfrican cinema.
A few years from now, the market which features pan-African arts will generate considerable sums. « Tomorrow is now ». This enormous potential must be brought forward into the light.
Such an “active dream” is an ideal that has made Africans and their diaspora what it is today. This was Mandela’s and Obama’s vehicle, as well as many others…
Pan-Africanism is an aggregate of universalism. It contains all of the lights, those of ancient Egypt and those of the future. In short, a constant beauty.
After a fantastic first edition during the lockdown of 2020, Malhaar Film Festival is back with a more exciting part two. This year, we have condensed the format of Malhaar into a finite number of interesting themes, which are sure to give our creators a run for their money.
Submission lines shall soon be opened for films made by amateur/experienced/aspiring filmmakers from across the globe.
MALHAAR GOES LOCAL THIS YEAR
This time, we are inviting creators to showcase their storytelling in any vernacular language of the world. Themes and dates would be announced shortly...till then, stay tuned!
GOING LOCAL?
Thanks to technology and globalization, every language, no matter the number of its speakers, has a chance. Localization is the magic word, which is eliminating the monopoly of certain languages like English.
Although films in English is in the race too, equal importance shall be placed on regional languages from all parts of the world. Filmmakers whose native language is English, can truly submit in that as much.
With Malhaar Local on Global, a whole lot of content is in wait of being churned out of the environment, politics, characters, plot and treatment preferences of regional cinema. We’re picking local this time, because we want to go deeper into the close-knit and impenetrable ethno-social pockets of the world, capturing the essence of these regions as we go.
The festival screens narrative and documentary feature and short films, music videos, as well as experimental and animation films, in competitive and non-competitive sections.
