The JachtFilm Maritime Film Festival

Warsaw, Poland

The JachtFilm Maritime Film Festival continues a long standing tradition from the 1980s. Between 1982 and 1990 the city of Katowice in southern Poland hosted a series of film screenings with national and international maritime and yachting films.

After a long break, caused by political and economical turmoil in Poland and Eastern Europe, the festival was revived. In 2011 Warsaws Kino Wisła was the place to be for all film-loving sailors and mariners – that’s where the current Maritime Film Festival was born.

During the two days of the 2011 edition, over a dozen films and documentaries about Polish and international sailing were screened. Most footage came from the archives of the Polish national television and private directors and producers.

As if those gems were not enough, the audience was able to enjoy stories from our esteemed hosts – captain Janusz Zbierajewski and journalist Andrzej Radomiński.
Their extensive knowledge and seemingly endless humor created a unique atmosphere, enchanting and entertaining the audience.

The following editions brought more big “chunks” of Polish and international maritime cinema to Warsaw. Our audience appreciates the efforts to bring true and exceptional sailing stories to the big screen. We try to screen films not only documenting voyages but also telling a story.

We proud ourselves on the loyalty of our audience. It consists mainly of sailors and sailing enthusiasts, many of which also have interesting sailing stories to tell. Some of them are active sport sailors, but most are recreational mariners.

Our goal was to prepare a balanced mix to suit all our visitors. Sailing has many faces, all of which are worth documenting, especially if there is a captivating human story to tell though sometimes the story of a vessel can be equally breathtaking.
We are also happy to welcome many special guests at each edition, many of which are the protagonists of the shown films.

Since 2013 there has been a very popular addition to the festival – we’re screening submitted short films about sailing and the sea under the motto “Reel me in”.

On December 2020 in Warsaw will host the 9th Maritime Film Festival.

The JachtFilm Maritime Film Festival takes place under the auspice of the Polish Yachting Association.

COVID-19 - Information from Festhome

Logo of Festhome
Published: 25 Mar 2020

Dear Friends,

We hope that you and your families and friends are well in these uncertain times. At Festhome we are no stranger to the serious crisis that the world is going through. However, we want you to know that we remain at your disposal, although we have taken the necessary precautions and have fully embraced remote working for all of our team: #stayhome. Due to these special circumstances, we want to offer our services and coding skills that may be useful in the coming weeks and months, either to create new tools or help you use existing tools such as Indiehome TV, online festivals, private video libraries, private film links, etc.

In addition, we have launched an online festival with a very simple philosophy adapted to this moment: that filmmakers who are confined to their homes may create and share pieces filmed during these atypical days with everyone. We call it Stop Virus Film Festival and it will be available for free at Indiehome TV . There are no entry or submission fees , it is totally free for spectators and filmmakers, and we will collect donations from viewers of the festival that will go entirely to research on the coronavirus .

Tips and suggestions for Festival Organizers

Many festivals have seen their festival dates affected and all must follow the recommendations and obligations of their governments. But, given the position of Festhome as a platform, we have been able to view some trends and want to share them, and add a few suggestions, to minimize the damage caused by COVID-19, both to filmmakers and festivals:

  • We are seeing that in most cases, the call for entries dates are not changing and the vast majority of festivals are choosing to keep them intact or extend them in a variable way as events unfold.

  • As for the dates of the festival, and although some cancellations are taking place, we see that most are opting for postponments and in a few cases, some festivals are also offering a part of their programming online (pay per view).

  • In cases of cancellation, we see that these festivals (and we recommend) that current submissions are kept for the next edition. We also request that you contact the filmmakers, as some of them may have seen their schedules altered and may request to be allowed to withdraw their films.

  • In cases of postponement, we also recommend that for the moment and due to the impossibility of planning at any level, an estimated date for the festival is announced. Due to the competition for the availability of spaces that will occur after this crisis, we recommend staying in touch and frequently informing the managers of the spaces about the possible dates as events unfold.

  • If you have advertising contracted with us, we are open and you can ask us about possible changes in dates and spaces as a result of these changes you may have to make.

In any case, we believe that communication with the filmmakers is very important. At Festhome we have many tools to help you communicate quickly and efficiently, both with messaging systems and using the specific page of your festival to keep giving information about your festival′s intentions to filmmakers.

We reiterate that we are at your disposal to help you, and we hope that this crisis will be over soon.

The Vegas CineFest and Awards is an International Film Festival founded in 2008.

We felt there was a lack of effective contests and awards being offered for short and indie projects that could advance the careers of new writers and filmmakers.

We began discussing the idea of launching such a festival and were soon joined by industry veterans whose contributions made the concept a reality and The International Vegas Cine Fest Awards was born. Vegas Cine Fest is an IMDB Qualifying Festival.

A non profit organization, it is one of the few film festival contests providing writers and filmmakers with the assistance needed to produce and expose their projects and then continue on to other major film festivals around the world.

By becoming a part of the International Vegas Cine Fest Awards you will be joining a growing number of professionals in the entertainment industry who are recognized for supporting other artists and have the excitement of participating in a Film Festival that is destined to become a springboard for many of tomorrow’s top filmmakers.

Finding the voice of a film, its tone, pace and path can be the hardest task a filmmaker undertakes. Some painful choices have to be made in all its creative phases.

It is a known fact that medium length films - films with a 30 to 60 minutes duration - usually struggle for visibility. They dont seem to fit the short film festival format nor the feature film valuable screening slots. For unconventional format films an unconventional minded festival.

Medium length cinema is a creative filmic space by its own right and one that we want to celebrate and explore. It's much more than a mere formal element. It can transcend a pre-built set of expectations about pace and structure and renew the spectators sense of excitement and discovery.

We meet in Lisbon, July 2021.

Banner Family Film Project

Family Film Project

Porto, Portugal

FAMILY FILM PROJECT is a film festival which takes place every year in Porto, Portugal, with fast increase in visibility and internationalization since its first edition in 2012.

In addition to the mandatory Portuguese presence, the festival has been receiving films from around the world: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Spain, Holland, Indonesia, Italy, Israel, Iran, Lebanon, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, Venezuela, among many other nationalities.

The sessions of competitive programming traditionally split into three thematic areas: Lives and Places (focusing on the voyeuristic, biographical or documentary recording of habitats and quotidian), Connections (focused on interpersonal and community dynamics) and Memory and Archive (dedicated to creative views from testimony and found footage). There is also a competitive session devoted to fiction and animation.

The festival program always holds a prominent space for directors and guest artists of international renown, such as Jonas Mekas (2012), Péter Forgács (2013), Alina Marazzi (2015), João Canijo (2016), Regina Guimarães (2017), Bill Nichols (2018) and Paula Rabinowitz (2018), Daniel Blaufuks (2018), Jaimie Baron (2019), Cláudia Varejão (2019), among others.

With several lines of action, the festival also organizes various parallel cultural events in addition to the competitive sessions: art exhibitions (which may extend beyond the festival date), movies, concerts, installations, performances at various locations of the city, master classes, conferences and launches of books focused on ethnographic and anthropological dimension.

The festival has expanded through the city in locations like the Rivoli Theatre, Passos Manuel, Coliseu, auditorium Almeida Garrett or the theater Carlos Alberto, but also art galleries, city streets and emblematic bars. Thus, the festival also helps to increase, in its most particular way, the cultural dimension of the city and the touristic appeal associated with it.

With its usual competitive sessions, masterclasses, performance events and video installations, the festival is once again placed on the conceptual boundaries of cinema and its dialogue with other arts and areas of thought.

As in previous years, the festival is organized into three thematic zones: Lives and Places (focusing on voyeuristic, biographical or documentary recording of habitats and everyday life), Memory and Archive (dedicated to creative approaches from testimonies and found footage) and Connections (focused on interpersonal and community dynamics). There is also a space dedicated to the genres of fiction and animation, with a competitive selection that will have a particularly strong Portuguese representation this year. Besides the national films, the festival receives in its competitive program a selection of almost two dozen films of different nationalities, from short to feature film, from documentary to experimental genre, always in a register that extends from the intimate plasticity of “home movies” to the ethnographic landscape.
