Due to the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide, 9FilmFest will cancel the May 27 - 28 dates and will move to September 2-3, 2020. Bangkok has closed malls, theatres, restaurants, schools and there is no update to when services will resume again. But the past two days has seen a drop in the number of Covid-19 infections, so we are hoping for control of the pandemic. We appreciate your understanding and offer our support during these difficult times of quarantine.

The 8th 9Fest will be held at Cinema Oasis, Bangkok’s newest indie film centre. What is more rewarding than having your film accepted into Competition? As Filmmakers, we take great pride in announcing our film is in the competition! “9” is the luckiest number in Thailand. Thus, 9 films are selected as Competition Finalists. Film Science, needs festivals to screen and create memorable and inspiring experiences for filmmakers and the audience. When we capture the audience we are successful!
Last year, the 9Fest Finalist Program screened at the magnificent Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.
Last year, at the 2019 Indy Shorts Festival, the THE TRANSLATOR’s director, Pagorn Jungrungruang flew more than 11,000 miles to Indianapolis from Thailand to present his film at the 9Fest Program screening.
Here’s what they said at Roger Ebert’s website:
SERIOUS OSCAR CONTENDERS UNVEILED AT 2019 INDY SHORTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
by Matt Fagerholm www.rogerebert.com
9Fest, the short film festival run in Bangkok by Brian Bennett, was the focus of a special section at Indy Shorts, compiling several works from directors around the globe, and like all the festival curation I observed here, it was anything but redundant. Bake Phouikham’s “Fallen Star, Rising Sun,” offers a candid sit-down with Ko Chandetka, the first Lao-American bodybuilder, whose struggles with addiction nearly derailed his life. He told me afterward that he believes there’s no healthy way to participate in any sport on a world-class level, and that one must always weigh the risks with the rewards.
The creative world is at your fingertips. 9FilmFest’s goal is to support filmmakers, applaud their hard work, spark creativity and provide opportunities for discovery. We’re here to make filmmakers dreams come true.
9Fest looks forward to seeing your amazing stories. We ensure your consideration in submitting and trusting us with your film.

Star Film Fest is dedicated to films made by young authors all around the world. Clear, simple, lovely but also serious! For 8 consecutive years, we have been giving opportunities to young, and talented filmmakers to showcase their works on the projection screen. Through the categories like documentary, feature, experimental, animated, and student film, Star Film Fest provides affirmation to students of the Academy of dramatic arts and the Academy of fine arts, but also to any young person that wants to engage in film outside academic frame.
In addition to film screenings and competition programs, Star Film Fest is held at several ambient locations in Sisak, and with accompanying content such as exhibitions, film workshops, concerts, and discussions on current topics, the festival proudly spreads film art propaganda which for centuries brings growth and cultural development to Croatia and the world while also calling for critical thinking and openness.
As a festival organizator, Kino Klub Sisak is also the only gathering place for filmmakers in Sisak-moslavina county. The development of Star Film Fest showcases the necessity of decentralization of film culture and art in Croatia. Therefore, by promoting the culture of filmmaking, creativity and critical thinking along with creating and maintaining a much needed platform for self-realization of young filmmakers, Star Film Fest gets the mark of a festival that is oriented on the prosperity of new, fresh creators, and audiences.

THE INTERNATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION FESTIVAL ”SIMFEST” - 2024
SIMFEST is a TV and film festival – competition, the only one of this kind in Romania and one of the few in Europe. It is organized every year by "SIMFEST Cultural Association", which supports and promotes the creators in visual arts.
SIMFEST stands for professionalism and for the freedom of expression of the journalists and the media producers. The festival promotes, at the same time, local journalism and community mass-media.
It is a complex manifestation for electronic mass-media. It is the annual meeting point of the TV's and film’s world specialists from Romania and from other countries, of students, independent producers, and of media enthusiasts; it is a competition that it's designed to find and form values and talents, to give them the needed validation and for connecting them with the medium in which they can develop. It is a competition and, at the same time, a media school and a cultural event.
The SIMFEST components are:
- The Competition
- The Summer School for journalists and media creators
- The official program of the festival
The Competition is opened to all the media creators, reporters, cameramen and media producers from Romania but also from other countries, but is also opened to freelancers, to students and territorial correspondents of central televisions, production houses, as well as to all multimedia creators. It has eight sections.

- ANIMATION
The jury of the competition consists out of well-known personalities in the field of journalism, TV and cinema from Romania and from other countries.
The Summer School for journalists and media creators was founded and included within the festival in 2007, and through it, SIMFEST became in the past few years the only institution in the country of non-formal education of media creators, especially from the audiovisual section.
The journalists Romeo Couți and Brândușa Armanca (TVR), the writer Bogdan Hrib, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Ion Stavre (SNSPA), Assoc. Prof. PhD. Lucian Ionică (West University of Timișoara), the director Ștefan Fischer (Germany), Charles Fletcher, MBE (Scotland), TV producer Codruț Pânzaru, TV producer Tamas Barok (Hungary), the director Copel Moscu (UNATC Bucharest), Iulia Badea Gueritee and Raymond Clarinard (Courrier International Paris), Beata Biel (Google expert, Poland), Ovidiu Gyarmath (Director of photography), Prof. PhD. Laura Baron (UNATC Bucharest), great Romanian actors like Marcel Iures and Dan Puric and many others held lectures and led workshops or held masterclasses within the Summer School.
The official program of the festival is available for the public with the purpose to, on one hand, construct a way of communication between the creators of media and those whom they serve: the consumers of information in order for the audience to correctly understand the messages transmitted through mass-media. On the other hand, it offers a space of free expression and a non-formal platform for professional development for the journalists and filmmakers. Therefore, SIMFEST is a festival not only a TV and film competition but also a cultural complex. The 2024 program consists of – beside others:
• Public projections of the productions sent in for the competition in the presence of the creators, followed by debates
• Online screening of the submitted productions (with the allowance of the owners)
• Public projections of Romanian movies inside of The Days of the Romanian Cinematography
• Public projections of movies and documentaries made by special guests of the festival
• Anniversary events dedicated to the supporters (sponsors, partners, volunteers etc)
• Gala of the laureates including musical recitals and poems (streamed online)
International recognition: SIMFEST is known and recognized in the Romanian mass-media as a role model in the promotion of artists' free expression and for the promotion and being an advocate of real media professionalism. Most of the creators attending SIMFEST for the past years, have also won international recognition at competitions organized in Sibiu, Prague, Belgrade, Bucharest, London, Kishinaw and Tel Aviv. SIMFEST is also in collaboration or in partnership with other similar manifestations: CRONOGRAF Chishinaw, DETECTIVEFEST Moskow, CINEPOLITICA Bucharest etc.
The "DEEPWAVE Filmfestival for the Protection of the Ocean" is an all-evening event for students, scientists, stakeholders of marine conservation and the general public. It's for all those who want an intense dive into the sea, its beauties and threats.
We specialize in a highly curated choreography. While we love high-quality short films, our utmost focus is for all movies, invited experts and experiences to be connected and seamlessly flow together - in the spirit of our oceans and their inhabitants.
An example would be the film "DEEP TIME", where the film's creators Kirsten and Joachim Jakobsen could discuss and revel in the experience of deep-sea exploration with invited guests the likes of Dr. Antje Boetius and Dr. Rolf Koppelmann. But the setting allowed the dive into deep-sea mining ethics and the dark implications of shady politics and greed - when exploration turns into exploitation.
One of our favourite moments was when the central character of the film "REPICORE | Research in Melanesia" joined us on stage, Dr. Sebastian Ferse, and told us about the devastating impacts of coral extinction. The discussion with Dr. Götz Reinicke sparked hard emotions, as a nearly complete loss of coral reefs by 2050 seems likely - even if we stop polluting the climate now. But a feeling of community in the audience and the repeated assessment of all present scientists, that true change leads to true impact, turned it around.
Even the catering, provided by a local zero waste store, has been selected to nourish guests in a sustainable manner and was a welcome addition to the brainfood on screen.
I could go on: the opening speech of actor Frederik Götz about the importance of transformative fear, the visit from filmmaker Faye Meijer, etc. We hopely brought a strong memory to all guests and created some food for thought and reason to change.
We thank everyone for attending, everyone who went out there with a camera to return with a piece of art and last but not least all who helped make this possible, the team, our donors, every partner and all who were involved in the in-house production of the short film "ONNO".
So, next round it is.
Help us to create a second memorable evening by submitting your movie, share it among your peers or suggest filmmakers we should contact.
We are looking for short length movies and videos of all genres about the ocean and its protection – politically, rousingly, enlighteningly, documenting, thrilling and to marvel.
The main topic this year will again be Coral Reefs and the Deep Sea (we will sadly have to make these a topic every year until they are saved), but we would like to include Climate Change as a topic that spans all else. And if you even have something about an often overlooked topic like Noise Mitigation we would be very grateful.
If your movie stars interesting personas who happen to live in a region accessible by train to Hamburg, we would love to invite them.
The festival is going to take place at the Lichtmess cinema. There is no entrance fee and catering is also free.
